How to become a Private Investigator, ....

Are you looking for a career change? Are you looking to become a private investigator?  Before you can commence any form of investigation you must become a licensed private investigator.   There are a few selection criteria’s you must meet prior to applying these include;

·         You must be over 18 years of age

·         You must complete Certificate 3 in Investigations with an accredited training organisation

·         You then can apply to the Department of Justice for your licence

There are many accredited training organisations around the country, each with their own style of training.  Theory and practical both form part of most training organisations.  The Law, The Privacy Act and Criminal Law is discussed and taught in most courses.   Practical lessons in evidence gathering, mobile surveillance and being street smart are also covered within most courses.

It is important to try and obtain some work experience prior to ‘going it alone’ in the field.  Many private organisations will allow and assist new investigators with on the job training.  Contact a few within your region by explaining your situation, attach your resume and ask for some work experience.

Obtaining a licence and gaining the experience is just the beginning of a new career in  Private Investigator, .  There is also a list of surveillance equipment that is required prior to commencing actual work.  These can include a digital and video camera, binoculars, tape recording device, motor vehicle and more!  The majority of the tools of the trade can be purchased at leading retailers; however some
